A Buyer Asked for More Specifications. Did It Actually Make the Decision Easier?

Recently, a buyer asked me for more details about a guitar cable.

Connector type.
Cable length.
Shielding.
Packaging.
Printing.
Tolerance.

My first reaction was simple:

More information should make the decision easier.

But the opposite happened.

The more specifications we discussed, the more questions appeared.

Not because the buyer was difficult.

Because many specifications are only useful after the buying decision has been narrowed down.

For example, before discussing 10 packaging details, the buyer may only need to answer:

Is this an entry-level cable, a mid-range retail cable, or a premium cable?

That one decision can eliminate half the unnecessary specifications.

It reminded me of something important in the MI business:

Good suppliers don’t just provide more information.
They help buyers remove unnecessary decisions.

A technical sheet can contain 30 parameters.

But a buyer may only need 5 of them to decide whether the product fits their market.

More specifications ≠ more clarity.

Sometimes, better prioritization creates more clarity.
